What is the mission of the Assisi Institute?

The Assisi Institute’s mission is “A not-for-profit organization fostering the integration of mystical traditions of both Eastern and Western spirituality. It exists for the sole purpose of assisting spiritual seekers on the path of contemplative transformation and an ever-deepening God-communion.”

What happens at the Assisi Institute?

Our official designation is as a “house of worship”, and our primary offerings are meditation/worship services. We also host retreats, classes, and other events that help deepen spiritual understanding and promote mental, physical and spiritual wellness.

When was the Assisi Institute founded?

The Assisi Institute was officially incorporated in 2006.

What does the name mean?

The Assisi Institute is named after Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis is the patron saint of Italy and founded the Franciscan order. His teachings speak to the immanence of God found in all of creation.

What is Christian Mysticism?

Many prominent Christians throughout history, as well as saints and sages from other faith traditions, were “mystics.” Mystics recognize the immanence of God in all things and see themselves as inseparably integral to the cosmic play of creation. Meditation is a technique that allows one to commune with God, and the ultimate goal for all mystics is a seamless union with the Divine.

What is Kriya Yoga?

Kriya Yoga is both a combination of meditation techniques and a contemplative/compassionate mode of living. It does not require the asanas (poses) found in Hatha yoga. Kriya Yoga is an ancient method for Self-realization and was brought to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920. Please visit our KRIYA YOGA page for more information.

How is the Assisi Institute financially supported?

As most of our offerings are free of charge, the Assisi Institute is primarily supported by your pledges and donations. We also host periodic events and fundraisers that generate supplemental revenues. What are your hours of operation?

In addition to the times of our regularly scheduled services and events, we welcome your visit from 11AM to 4PM, on Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays. Staff members are also generally present from 10AM to 5PM Tuesday through Friday, or by appointment.
