Jesus' Mystical Teachings of Oneness, Balance & Inner Peace

Join us on Saturday, October 17 for a one day retreat in which we will feature learning a simple meditation technique to experience the Silence within from which all the great Truths emerge and take life.

We will just briefly touch on the "Science of Transcendence (inner silence) and we will also read the poetic verses of St. Thomas and open our hearts to a deep and profoundly transformative aspect of Jesus' teachings for those who seek more from His Path of Peace, inner and outer.

Peace

“Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow peace.”
Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

On a recent trip to the grocery store, I ran into a friend that I had not seen for years. After an exchange of pleasantries, she boldly proclaimed, “Isn’t it terrible what is happening in the world?” “What’s happening in the world?” I asked. “You know, rumors of wars, global warming, a bad economy. We’re going to hell in a hand basket.” Without much internal editing, I replied, “I don’t think worrying about it is going to change a thing. Any positive change that is going to occur has to begin with our own inner peace, which can only come from our own silent communion with God.” After a moment of uncomfortable silence, we hugged and said goodbye.

Discovering the Divine

Recently, a childhood memory came flooding back to me. While attending Catholic school, Sister Bernadette asked me the following question: “Why were we created, and what is the source of true happiness?” Not knowing the answer, I mumbled something about the New York Yankees and my mother’s Italian cooking. My classmates laughed, but Sister Bernadette did not. After being reprimanded, I was given the correct answer and then told to write it five hundred times: “We were made to know, to love and to serve God.” I have never forgotten that assignment or the answer, for it has become the foundation of my life.

The blissful, liberating knowledge of God is not a complicated process. We don’t have to embark on a grand and complicated search for a remote deity. The Divine Presence is within all of us, as the Soul of all souls, as the very ground of our being. In the words of Paramahansa Yogananda, “You are all gods. If only you knew it; behind the wave of your consciousness is the sea of God’s presence. Everything we seek is already within us, right now.” Gloria in Excelsis Deo!
